GenCon was utter chaos, but I'd do it again
I went to GenCon this past week and wanted to share my experiences, the good, the bad, the chaotic.
Hey everyone! I went to GenCon this past week and had a hell of a time. I wanted to make a quick post sharing my highlights from the trip: The Good, The Bad, and The Chaotic.
The Good
There was a lot of fun to be had at GenCon. Friends, games, food, and more! Here are just a couple of the highlights.
Friends
I got to meetup with a bunch of other creators! We played some games, went out to dinner, and had a blast. It’s kind of a surreal experience to meet people who you have only ever talked to online. Check out all their channels and support them, they are all really cool guys.

Playtesting!
I ran a game of Peasantry! We played the Generic Chicken Adventure, and it was a hilarious game! One peasant drank some fermented milk and got so sick they had to say Moo! every third word. Another Peasant exploded and replaced their character with a chicken. Old Jedd was killed and revived like 7 times. They hatched Cluck Norris. And they also defeated the Poultry Prophet atop a volcano by forming a chicken mech suit (Actually Insane) Here is a bunch of art of their characters.

Food
Me and my buddy went to both Steak & Shake and the Waffle House. We ate a lot of PB&J’s and also enjoyed the block party food trucks. Food is Good.

Loot!
I bought/was given a bunch of different things! Super excited to look through and read a bunch of these (I can post reviews if anyone is interested…) I even picked up a new board game called Feed the Kraken! Which is a new take on a social deduction game, it has pirates, cultists, and sailors! I fed my buddy to the kraken and then helped the Pirates win AAARRGGHH! Also check out the Epic Levels soundtrack, super funny DND focused rap album, plus I met the creators at the Ennies and they were super nice and chill to hang out with.
Games!!
I got to play a ton of cool games, but I figured I’d do a shoutout to a couple of the highlights. As mentioned above I played Feed the Kraken with the creator Maikel Cheney, if you like social deduction games check that one out. I played Ahoy with some random people in the Marriott hotel, never did catch their names… I played Alice is Missing til like 3am, was a super interesting game where you silently text each other for roleplay; thank you so much Katy for sharing the game with us and teaching us to play. I died horrifically in Of Popes and Plagues, hosted by the creator themselves Tray Green!

The Ennies
I went to the Ennies and met a bunch of game design peoples!! I got to see the Exalted Funeral folk win like 7 different awards, Chris Mcdowall won 3 ennies for Mythic Bastionland, Prismatic Wasteland won 2 Ennies, and Triangle Agency won 3 Ennies! Super proud of those folk! I took a photo with the excellent Tiger Wizard, one of the creators over at Epic Levels. I also got to meet Kelsey of the Arcane Library, and we traded an autograph for a demo copy of Peasantry!

The Bad
Accident…
So, I got into an accident only 10 mins from the convention center in the dark pouring rain… No physcial harm and I still drove it 17 hours home though! Shoutout to my buddy Jake for helping with the long drive too! Love ya buddy!
The Chaotic
This Ugly Guy
This ugly guy was walking around spreading Scarlett Fever most of Sunday. Horribly filthy lowly thing he is…
Potato
Some guys gave me terrible advice about running my playtests then handed me a potato???
The Expo Hall
This place was a crowded maze. Me and my buddy lost each other within 1 minute of entering the hall. We would proceed to lose/find each other over 12 times during the weekend. Absolute chaos but it was fun.
Conclusion
GenCon was wild.
